In addition, CLGBTCC works closely with government agencies and community-based organizations to help build a diverse, inclusive and prosperous business environment in our region. The Chamber also works to build relationships with other diversity organizations and to support policies and laws that promote LGBT+ equality. No. The chamber welcomes members of all gender identities and sexual orientations. Many of our most active members are not LGBT+ people, including several past and present chamber board members. More than thirty percent of our membership are allies.
The reasons people join the chamber are as diverse as our membership. Some business owners and professionals are interested in reaching an audience or customer base they might not otherwise have access to. Studies show that LGBT+ people prefer to do business with those who market specifically to them and who show support for equality by supporting LGBT+ events and organizations—even when it costs more to do so. Others join as a way of showing support for LGBT+ equality. Still others join to meet and network with talented, savvy business owners, or because the chamber offers programs and events to help them grow their businesses or professional practices.
